The Door and Us

Often I sit at the doorsteps,
In the hope to find the door open.

You are always prompt in opening the door,
But only when I knock at it.

I wonder,
If it is you who keeps waiting for me to knock
Or is it me who is maintaining the distance with the existence of an illusory door

Beautiful poem, Kalpana. We always hold ourselves back, don't we, when there is no need for it at all. In all our relations this happens. Our conditioning is to remain self-enclosed. We create around us illusory walls. (Please change 'illusionary' to illusory.) There is a higher spiritual level of meaning to this poem (which you may not have intended at your young age... or did you, really?)

Yes Venuji, this poem is actually about the same feeling.. you've rightly pointed the the self-enclosed conditioning. I don't know about others but for me this is the truth and I've been struglling to fight it out. As regards to spiritual level I don't think I've reached that level as yet :-)

it is the door dear, which tries to extend its existence by creating clouds in your otherwise clear sky...

is it you who is waiting for me to knock or is it me waiting to find an open door ... ?

and in this waiting, a lifetime passes ...

Thats so simple and deep :)

I wonder what if the last line is
"Or is it me who is waiting for you to open the door."

It makes more sense and adds a meaning to the last but one line you wrote :)

Keep writing :)

Usually I check for others' posts in my dashboard - how come yours posts don't appear? This is a lovely poem. Such invisible doors and walls are the ones that keep people apart. You have expressed it so simply and elegantly.

hey dear, this is beautiful and deep :) Just wanted to add that i struggle maintaining the 'distance from the illusory door'? at some levels i acknowledge the distance with its existence but that usually the logical mind adepts faster. The possibilities of this existence itself being illusory is a harder choice (at least for me)
